Poster Lust

My obsession with vintage posters is well documented on this blog. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, I think vintage posters are a great way to add antiquated charm and colour to a space. Even better is when they represent a theme or interest of yours- than it's an even more personal touch to your decor! Purchasing a vintage piece in good condition is an investment, so although prices may run steep, it can pay off in the long run when you decide to sell it down the line or leave it to your family.

While sourcing on 1st Dibs I decided to search for some posters to lust after and here are my top picks:

1920's Heath's Modern Language Charts Framed Poster, $600

Horst Anthes Munich Olympia poster 1972 signed, $1000

Original 1935 Italian Travel poster by Franz Lenhart, $1,900

Classic Calm with Stephen Miller Siegel

The use of colour, sense of lightness and abundance of plush textures make these homes designed by Stephen Miller Siegel look so inviting. I love how the spaces convey a sense of classic calm but still have modern elements that make it current.

Happy Fashion Week Toronto

It may be Fall fashion week here in Toronto, but spring is around the corner so spring is what I’m going to post! Here are some of my favourite pieces from the new spring collections of our homegrown designers…

image

First up is veteran Canadian fashion designer Linda Lundström’s super-luxe “¾ Singing in the Rain Coat” and her “tuck n’tie dress” (so would have been perfect for the safari!)

imageimage

On the more fierce side of fashion, is Carrie Hayes. I love her structured Corraline wrap dress, the gorgeous neckline of the era-licious Plume dress and the eccentric glamour of the Avifauna cocktail dress.

Carlie Wong’s vintage-esque spring collection’s standout is the tuxedo-inspired get-up below. I could never wear it but I can certainly want it!

Lastly, I think these sheaths from Comrags are darling and sweet. You wouldn’t want to go too retro with the accessories for fear of looking like an extra from the Mad Men set, but mixing these dresses in with some modern touches could be a perfect marriage of old and new.

If anyone makes it to the shows let me know how they go! I’m prepping for another Israel Museum event next week and deep in the midst of drafting homework for my interior design night classes so I’m sitting out for this one…

Dr. Stuart Divinely Designed Teas

I am a tea freak. The sense of ritual, the calming aromas, the varied flavours - I am always on the look out for new brands of tea and the great packaging that often accompanies it.

Dr. Stuart's line of teas is a new discovery I stumbled upon when taking out lunch in whole foods.  While taking a short cut to the soup bar my eyes caught  sight of the clever illustrations on each box and I just had to stop and play.

Designed by Pearlfisher, I am totally charmed by the witty illustrations tailoured to each tea's medicinal purpose. I picked up the Detox Tea (encapsulated so perfectly by the pink-heeled lady above) for when a coworker and I start a week-long cleanse.

Green With Equestrian Envy

image

I've always been a sucker for old school Polo gear. It just oozes preppy class and my colour-loving brain tends to gravitate right towards the eye-popping hues. Combine that with my dedication to checking out any new collections on Ralph Lauren's Home site and you get: Modern Equestrian. The touches of leather, rainbow palette and horseshoe theme may seem like a little much, but if you were to mix in an accessory here or a throw pillow there, it could add a touch of class to your space.

image

My favourite pick from the collection is the Polo Player Throw Pillow, $795.00 although my first loves are the green and navy printed blanket and throw pillow pictured in the top photo first (don't see them for sale on the site though)

PS- how awesome is the newest Ralph Lauren paint ad? Love the colours - love the styling - love the riding boots perched next to the bench - it gets an A+!
