Craigslist Console

A lot of stuff you see listed on c-list is drek, but my consistent efforts to troll the site for decor gold was reassured when I saw this fabulousness:

image

This mirrored console is 80s glam in a Kelly Wearstler way. I love how its facets step back outwards – reminds me of a New York skyscraper.

image

If I was working on a foyer right now for an adventurous client, I’d snap up the console, top it with two tall cloisonné vases and a fabulous vintage print, flank it with two show stopping chairs, upholster the walls in a shimmering grasscloth and lay down a greek key runner for instant drama and fun! The finishing touch would be an iconic Hermes ashtray to use as catchall for keys. Who wants to sign up?

A Little Snapshot...

Bowtie Baby

I am salivating over this vintage side table I spied on craigslist:

image

The amazing bowtie drawer would look super glamorous painted out black, with the rest of the piece sprayed in a high-gloss white. How wonderfully mod and sophisticated would it be next to a modern white sofa...

Alexa Hampton Vanity Lust

I am so in love with the Stephanie Vanity Desk from Alexa Hampton's Hickory Chair collection. What a glamorous place to type away on your laptop or primp at!  The straight tapered legs are strong and masculine but the gilded circular motif softens the looks and adds that opulent girly touch- so divine!

image

After drooling over the pricey piece, I serendipitously stumbled upon the console pictured below on craigslist and was instantly reminded of my lust object.

image

I have since made arrangements to make it mine. The seller bought it at an estate sale in New York years ago and is willing to part with it for a steal so whether I keep it painted as is or refinish it in a different palette, I am happy to have a versatile piece with great lines.

Craigslist Curved Couch Steal

It may not be a carbon copy of this 1st dibs beauty for over 10 grand...

image

But this yellow 193O's Vintage Couch is only $75 on my local craigslist!

The sensuous shape with it's tight back and seat and rolled arm would look very paris apartment reupholstered in a striking black and white stripe:

Kravet Basics Sunbrella black and beige outdoor stripe

Or you could let the more dramatic shape speak for itself with a geometric print in soft shades of cream and white:

Imperial Trellis in Alabaster

Topped with some fabulous throw cushions, the sofa would sing!!!

Antiquing in Ontario Craigslist Styles

This antique sofa and arm chair pairing is waiting to be rescued from its Newmarket home and begging to be turned into something fabulous. The listing says it's possibly over 50 years old with no scratches on the wood and no damage.

image image image

Recovered in some beautiful patterned fabric, such as these gorgeous prints from Kelly Wearstler's collection for Schumacher (below), the set has such potential and both pieces are only $75 or best offer - go get 'em girls!!

image

Prints (from left): Imperial Trellis in alabaster, Couture Stripe in Lapis and Jet Black, and Imperial Trellis in treillage/ivory

PS- there's also this antique set available in Colborne, ON for $150. The sofa is 7 feet long! As Deuce would say, that's a huge b*tch!

Craigslist Find: Floral Tulip-Esque Arm Chair

My latest perusal of craigslist furniture offerings yielded this interestingly-shaped chair:

image

Vintage Chair, $325

Despite being currently upholstered in a hideous granny floral, the striking lines and solid wooden frame promise plenty of stylish potential.

image

Pair French 1930s Art Deco Tulip Club Chairs, $9,500

image

Pair of 1930s Belgian Art Deco Swivel Tulip Chairs, $7,600

You could play it safe in a neutral solid fabric like the ones I found above on 1st Dibs, but I'd like to see this unusual chair recovered in a fetching print.

Perhaps one of Michelle's eco-friendly stunners from her line Rubie Green, such as Mary or East Village, could work...

Craigslist Find: Red Velvet (not of the cake variety)

image

Two vintage crimson velvet chairs that rotate.

$350 for the pair, to be picked-up in Toronto.

Interested? Click here.

image

You could reupholster the pair in a traditional style that resembles the classic piped look, as seen in Ruthie Sommer's red room above.

You can also use them as they are for a funky touch in an entertainment or screening room.

The red velvet is a perfect throwback to the glam theatres of the past.

Attention Ontario: Craigslist Find Alert!

A pair of retro chairs from the early 1970's.  All original and in very good condition for a whopping 50 bucks!

These are just waiting to be reupholstered and turned into fabulous statement pieces like the french armchair I found at

1st dibs:

Perhaps they could sit at the head of a dining table?

Check it out if you think you can make it to Aurora to pick them up!
