A Perfect Wardrobe Transition

image The mod gal inside me is wanting to steal this netaporter mannequin's outfit right off the skinny bitch's wooden legs.

The bright magenta hue of the T-Bags Faux button mini dress, $220 is like a beacon of spring sunshine but the jersey material and navy trim makes it feasible for May Toronto weather.

Throw on my wolfords and milk some last wearings of my tory patent booties  before summer replaces them with sandals and I'm all set!

Hardware…More Than The Name Implies!

P1060445

Hardware Interiors is more than the name implies. Inside this Queen East showroom/workshop you will find handmade furniture pieces and accessories – many of which are made from reclaimed and recycled materials.

P1060447

This storage piece ($3,200) is a throwback to library card catalogues, but on a much bigger scale. But once you open the honed piece you get quite the surprise!

P1060448

The multiple banks of drawers are a facade for good ol’fashioned shelving!

P1060452

This console ($995) is organic and glamorous at the same time with its subtle polish and clean lines. The mod desk lamp hanging on its surface with the marble base is a steal at just $130

P1060460 The doors of this amazing piece are art panels coated in a high-gloss resin. For $4,200, you not only get a large storage piece, but an innovative work of art!

P1060454

This over-sized lamp is a modest $185. I love its bulbous shape and warm black shade. A pair of these would look awesome on a console in a foyer

Junior League of Toronto Showhouse

Every four to five years the Junior League of Toronto partners with Toronto's design community for a Showhouse to fundraise for community causes.  This year the showhouse is revitalizing popular event venue McLean House at the Estates of Sunnybrook (funny enough my mom remembers visiting the showhouse at the same place when they did it over 20 years ago!)

image

The design firm  I work with didn’t luck out with the greatest room to work with, but I think visitors will be surprised by what we’ve done with the place.  I’ve spent quite a few hours there watching the house evolve so I’m excited that it will be open to the public starting this Friday!

P1060746

If you’re in the Toronto-area or within driving distance to the city it’s definitely worth a visit! Money raised benefits the women and babies program at Sunnybrook hospital and the house is open until May 31st.

Mod Lounge in Amsterdam Airport

En route to South Africa we flew into THE Amsterdam Airport and hung out in the KLM Crown lounge.

IMG_0375

It was super sleek and modern, with red egg chairs, lots of chrome and modular seating areas. The whole vibe was very swinging 60s and I loved how there were separate eating, entertainment and bar areas.

IMG_0365IMG_0358IMG_0360IMG_0361IMG_0364IMG_0363 IMG_0362

Because it was Amsterdam, there was a  flower shop on thew first floor of the terminal selling gorgeous tulips of every colour! They were so beautiful!

IMG_0368

There were also the token souvenir tulip and delft blue china figurines for tourists to snap up...

IMG_0371

Also worth mentioning is the most bizarre mcdonald's menu item I have ever seen: The McKroket.

IMG_0376

Based on the traditional Dutch food, a kroket, the McKroket is a deep fried crunchy roll containing beef ragout. I’m fairly adventurous with food but it looked as terrifying as it sounded so I stayed away

Skirt Score

My trip to Miami was filled with some great shopping scores.

For instance, I snapped up this Urban Outfitters Silence & Noise Printed Poplin Skirt on the clearance rack for less than 25 bucks! It's probably as close to the IKAT trend as I'll get and I loved the bright hits of violet too!
